A few changes to The Garden at Moorfield!
We wanna make it easy, fun and valuable to you as gardener's and garden lovers!
Hello dear readers and happy weekend wherever you are in the world!
Hugo and I really appreciate you being here, let’s just start with that. Starting substack has been such a game changer for us after telling our story via Insta for so long and fulfills those two needs in me, one as a writer and the other as a horticulturist, and the capacity to share both in one place. It has been a real learning curb which we have loved, and we wanna get it right, looking at what works, and what doesn’t, and what you want.
After a deep dive on what we’re offering, both Free and Paid Subscribers, we’ve made some changes to chat on a more regular basis in easier to digest bites. Our fortnightly communications are becoming whopping great novels I doubt many of you have the time to get through, let alone me find a concise way to share it all in one hit.
So, we’re making some changes we think you’ll enjoy:
Offerings for Free Subscribers:
Access to The Month at Moorfield Newsletter, which is an overview of what we are up to in the garden over the course of the month and access to some Garden Gadabout Galleries and the occasional journal and (Moor)field Guide extra.
Weekly Offerings for Paid Subscribers:
($5 per month or $50 per year)
Alternating weekly communications, for example:
Week 1 - The Garden at Moorfield Journal which includes a slightly shorter form written piece from yours truly about our gardening journey, past and present and life here at Moorfield, the trials and tribulations of building a garden from scratch, organically, on this scale, ourselves. As well as the journal, you will receive a Top 5 Favourites (gardening books, roses, flowering trees…..you get the idea) and Pip’s Plant Pick, as part of this journal.
Week 2 - The (Moor)field Guide which is the breakdown of works taking place in the garden including preparation of sites, planting how-to’s, a focus on one or two areas in particular, for example, the Veg Garden would also contain our fave varieties of certain veggies and why, and our growing tips for them or how we are managing certain pests and disease. These will include links back to previous entries that pertain to the focus area and will make finding info regarding the garden how-to’s a little easier.
*So, you will receive one of these each week, alternating and will also include access to Farm Recipes and videos from Hugo and I, Q&A’s, How-To’s and Garden Walk-through on Moorfield TV as part of these, as they are posted.
Monthly Offerings for Paid Subsribers:
Each month you’ll receive either:
A Garden Guide which is a focused guide on one of the garden areas. These are living documents that are updated as the the garden areas are and are an extensive how-to. Currently guides for the The Rose Garden, The Vegetable Garden, The Orchard, The Useful aka Herb Garden, are currently up.
A Garden Gadabout Interview and Photo Gallery of a gardener I love and their gardens including their best tips and most beloved plants, as well as capturing their journey into gardening. Access to Garden Gadabout Galleries which are gardens I visit during the Open Garden season, or on tours.
The Story of Life at Little Oak Farm, released chapter by chapter, one per month about the garden that changed our lives that we built at the bottom of the world in Southern Tasmania against the odds. The odds being no money, no knowledge, the epic Roaring Forties winds and ravenous wildlife. In particular, how it helped me to overcome years of a turbulent and frightening childhood that lead to years of making the wrong choices and a whole lot of inner turmoil, and helped me to find my true calling, and my voice.
Access to the Month at Moorfield and all Podcast Episodes. I am recording my journals to make them easier for everyone to listen to, as well as read.
Ok, thanks for reading this far guys. This new format will start from Friday this week with a journal and next Friday you will receive the first (Moor)Field Guide. Our next Garden Guide is a doozie and is due out in the next fortnight, it is The Masterplan Guide, which takes in our whole vision for the property and extensive garden we are designing here, including all illustrated maps and garden room plans, by yours truly.
Anyway, enough of that, go enjoy your weekends!! We are headed out to the garden to get some more mulching and brushcutting done. We’ve seen 8 snakes (2 Tiger snakes and 6 Eastern Browns) on the roads around us, and we’re keeping that grass down with the little one and pup around!
