A little something for all our readers...

Trailer for the (Moor)Field Guide March Garden Video Diary & an introduction Little Oak, our first garden, who haven't been with us that long.
4

Our Garden Video Diaries, or the (Moor)Field Guide, created each month, go out as near to the the close of that month that we can get, to all our paid subscribers and cover what we’ve been getting up to in the garden over those 4 weeks. We add links in the body of the post below the video, taking you to the various guides and plans and lists, hosted here on our substack, that we are referring to in the video.

We love putting these videos together because while I love to write, alongside gardening, these are, without a doubt, my first loves, film allows us to be able to convey the sights and sounds of what it is like to live and build a garden from scratch here at Moorfield, in a whole new way, as we learn how, across the seasons, in a whole new climate for us to garden in. With dryer, longer and hotter summers and far colder and wetter winters and over a bigger area, the garden at Moorfield is a whole other set of learnings and challenges to the garden we created at Little Oak (see below for more information about Little Oak).

We have had beautiful feedback from our readers/viewers on our monthly videos and many have said it acts a as prompt, a reminder as to what to get up to in the garden, which they can watch easily and quickly with a cuppa in the morning or of an evening after a long day and when ready, with more time up there sleeve, or ready to actually do the work in their own gardens themselves, can come back and use the references we supply with the video, for a deeper dive.

This month we refer to the below areas and tasks in the garden….

Cheat Sheet: Easy Propagation - A closer look at the propagating you see me do in this months video diary, and other methods I use.

Cheat Sheet: Tips to Building A Garden without Know-How or Budget - Relating to the work we are doing currently on the building of the Malus and Meadow Pollination Garden this is a more indepth look at how we build gardens and how we built our first garden, Little Oak.

Cheat Sheet: Positioning, Soil Prep & Planting - A further look at how we build garden beds and our planting methods as discussed in this months video.

The Malus and Meadow “Pretty and Tough” Pollinator Garden Guide: Part 1

It began with a rose….

Words as Seeds. - A little story I wrote some time back about the ‘George’s Tomato’ I mention in the video, given to me by Cass of The Sentimental Gardener.

And on a different topic but one that started it all and which I am so often referring to, I also just wanted to share this original article written for Country Style Magazine (Australia’s leading country lifestyle and country garden magazine) that was written about Little Oak by the very talented

and captured by the equally talented photographer, stylist and writer, Crawford. Little Oak now pops up often in various publications about cottage gardens and farmhouse makeovers, she’s become a place you can stay and has recently appeared in Vogue for the most gorgeous wedding between two extraordinary people, Sarah Andrews and Olympian, Mimi Knoop (See here).

Many of you have been with us since those early days in Southern Tassie where we cut our teeth on this rundown farmhouse with no garden to speak of but for an unused polytunnel, an old cherry blossom and two lonely pear trees, and are aware of the profound impact creating this garden had on my life, a story I am currently penning in full as we speak but also, many of you have no idea what I am on about when I refer to “Little Oak”, and I do so, so often. So here is a link to the original article for any of you who would like to learn a little more, there is also a pic of Hugo and I doing our best not look exhausted as we so were back then, having just wrecked ourselves doing the final work on her before we would leave to find Moorfield after Hugo’s work asked him to move off the island during Covid.

Ok, well, I hope you find a moment in the beginning of your busy week to have a look and a read, have a wonderful day! 🌱 💚
