Last night I sat in my office and did my first ever podcast with the “Avant Gardeners”, a new podcast created by two old friends of mine in Tasmania who are keen gardeners but feel they lack the know-how to create the gardens they want so they talk to gardening folk about their experiences and tips. More than this though and far more important than having the know-how, is that they have the love, they both really adore gardens, adore the growing of flowers and food…..and sometimes I think that is more important than knowing exactly what you’re doing or thinking you need to know everything there is to know about the world of gardens. Especially in the beginning…….gardening is a journey, there is no doubt, of acquiring knowledge and growth, and not just of the plants, growing a garden will grow you, it will change you.
They asked me a question……what is the one thing that evades me still? The one thing I have not mastered growing in the garden? I paused for a lot longer than I had expected I might when asked a question like this. A few years ago, lets say five or six even, I could’ve answered this question a dozen times over……but when you love something like I love gardens and gardening, the hunger, the thirst for understanding as much as I can, the want of all the skills and the desire to try it all, grow it all, is insatiable.
