The Garden at Moorfield Journal: 37
How I left a career I hated, lived off spinach and found true happiness in horticulture. 17.11.2023
Dear Readers,
This journal is about that time I left my well paying but incredibly stressful career, to work with plants for a pittance and gained peace of mind……but the road was not without it’s bumps or moments of doubt, many of them in fact, not that I made the wrong choice for my happiness was testament to my choice to walk away into a new life but whether or not we could sustain it, survive it for the road to happiness and peace of mind was paved with bills and mortgages and living expenses we could no longer meet some weeks, most weeks in the early days.
This story will not be for everyone but it will speak to some of you, and there will be some of you who may not be ready to hear any of this, for it can be confronting but maybe, just maybe, when one day the air feels different and the way it holds you to things, shifts, you’ll remember you read something once that sounded like how that feels.
This is the story of how I came to be here, almost a decade later, in a career I couldn’t enjoy more with an inexhaustible thirst for understanding it all, how the joy it brought me flowed over into the rest of my life and left me in a place within myself, emotionally, that once upon a time I didn’t believe was possible for me, not from how it had begun for me as a child. How sometimes the choices we make in life, even when we made them a long time ago and have lived them every day since, isn’t reason enough to continue down that same road and how knowing which one to take can be as simple as asking yourself a very ordinary question and giving the most honest answer you can, the first one that makes you smile and lowers your heart rate. And then being prepared to let the rest of it all fall where it may.
What do you want? What do you really want to do?
