Pip I’m looking everywhere for the story of a visit you and your mum had to a gardening weekend maybe in Tassie in this past winter where you learnt new tricks about composting. I am just about t build a new composting bay system and wanted to see what you had learnt. Can you please point me in the right direction? Particularly looking to build walls with bales of hay/straw as the structure as I think that was what I saw in the pictures you posted. Seemed like a clever idea on our farm.

Hi lovely! Ok so if you to the Garden at Moorfield 29 and scroll down you’ll find where we made it. Not sure if I mention this but after setting it down cover with more thick biscuits of pea straw or in our case an old moving blanket to keep it dark for the worms and let it start to cook. Again not sure if I mention this but I add gardeners lime if I need it to speed up the breaking down process and if you can add a worm tea or worm castings too, that will often have eggs in it and speed things up as well. It’s been great for us and we are loving ours. I think we will always do this now on different parts of the garden as we are working on them xo

Oh thank you 🙏 I truly love this idea of a moveable compost. So smart. I’m about to construct a big new productive raised bed area inspired by your drawings of Moorfield. Bit excited!
